Originally, we manufactured the Thermapen in gray only. Later we added all the food-safety color-coding versions. Many people in the food industry use color coding to prevent cross contamination by dedicating tools to specific food products. That way, a knife, cutting board or thermometer that is used for say, raw poultry, won’t end up contaminating fresh vegetables like salad greens.
That was the reason we did multiple colors for the Thermapen. Of course most people buy a color variety simply according to personal preference. Even in commercial applications it seems most people buy colors so they can quickly tell who belongs to which Thermapen (blue is Fred’s, yellow is Cathy’s, etc…)
In 2006 we added black and orange which weren’t even on the color coding system. If you have a color preference that we don’t make yet, email us and we’ll keep track of your vote.

What is Biomaster?

No more overcooked meat. Now everything I cook whether on bbq, oven or stove top is perfect. I have the MK4. Would highly recommend it.
By far, the finest thermometer available. There is nothing else that will improve your cooking more than cooking to the right temperature. Customer service is spectacular. Highly recommended.
I've had a dozen different thermometers - none are precise or consistent. My new Thermapen is SO good - I can actually rely on it for the right temperatures - immediately. LOVE IT!
You may think that the price on this is too high for a thermometer. I have spent far more on " better deals" over the years. I have tossed away at least a dozen thermometers over the years, and likely have double the cost of this in different models in a drawer. None of them compare to the Thermapen MK4! Fastest reading and easiest to use. I will likely buy another for a gift in the future!
I love how quick the Mk4 measures temperature and how accurate it is. When I make coffee, the Mk4 confirmed that water boils at my elevation at 207 degrees F. Knowing that coffee is best roasted at 195-205F, I use the Mk4 to watch the hot water temp drop when I pour the boiling water into my room temp stainless steel French press. It dropped about 14 degrees, so I now heat up the press to keep the steeping temp closer to 200 instead of the low 190s. I have been measuring all sorts of stuff with this like the temperature of the hot tap water. Because of its speed, I can slowly insert it into a pot sticker to see that while the outside was close to 180 degrees, the inside was still 130 degrees and needed to go back in the boiling water. This is a major help to ensure that things get to the safe temperature to kill any pathogens. I have been taking it to friends houses to show it off to them and they get a kick out of it too. It is so much fun to use!
I never knew how important internal temps were until I started using the Thermapen Mk4. This thing has made me a better cook. Now my steaks come out perfect.
I have a couple of other "instant-read" thermometers. It takes them so long to register the temperature that it changes in the meantime. I'm really impressed with the speed of this thermometer. I love it.
I bought this as a gift for my wife who's a great cook and loves great kitchen tools. She loves it. I've been amazed by the follow up from the company wanting to ensure I was pleased with the product.
I was watching Cook s Country and saw how the cooks used it. I figured why not give it a try. The pen is superb! Easy to use and clean. It helped me discovered my oven was off by almost 30 degrees after I checked the internal temperature on my flan. I ordered one for my son who loves cooking.
I wasn't sure I wanted to spend this much for a thermometer but I don't regret it at all. I use this for so much more than I thought I was going to. I love how quickly it registers and how easy it is to see the reading.

I admit I hesitated to spend this much for a instant read thermometer. But having used other brands with some frustration, I finally went for it. Worth every penny, particularly for fish where temperature is so critical. But really, it works beautifully for everything I've tried, Can't recommend it highly enough--do yourself a favor and go straight to this one and skip the lesser brands!

Takes the guess work out of cooking. Medium, no problem, medium well, to perfection. It has helped to take my BBQing skills to the next level.
I was used to the meat thermometers that took about 5 or 6 seconds to register a temp. The MK4 is awesome, usually in about 1 second for me. Also, the quality is fairly high. I highly recommend this product.
Received my MK4 last week, so far I've used it to check fresh lobster internal temps, chicken and steak on my smoker. All readings are with in two seconds, I couldn't be happier.
