I used to free grind all our kitchen and field knives and I can still do some. I now have Parkinson's and hand shake has become an issue. This tool takes away most of the steadiness I have lost in my hands. The edge angles can be made precise and after a little practice our blade edges are razor sharp again using this tool. The overall construction is solid with good SS components. I could suggest some minor improvements, but overall it is a great tool.

It works very well, but the 120 grit stone seems to be too soft. The tolerance on the pivot is a little loose. Otherwise it does a pretty good job of holding the angle you want. It is a good sharpener for the price.

My husband is a butcher so sharp knives are important to him. At work he has industrial sharpeners. At home he does not. He said this sharpener was nearly as good as his industrial one. I have never seen our knives so sharp.

Works great for the price. The mount tends to move slightly while sharpening so you have to be careful to keep the corect angle. I would recommend.

I have several of this style sharpener so knew what I was getting into. This needed some tinkering to be usable. All the edges were rough - burred but a few minutes with a file smoothed that up. Viewed as a kit of parts and with a trip to the hardware dept it worked fine. I spent about 50$ and two hours and its now equivalent to a much more expensive machine. If you aren't mechanical and creative maybe not a good idea. I had fun tinkering it to almost perfection. I still need to do a bit more but it put a really nice edge on a couple of expensive knives. Tremendous bargain if you can finish it. Ok deal as is. It is a much better place to start than many cheap plastic kits and quite inexpensive. I just can't give it more than four stars and maybe should have said three but I personally like it and expect it last. Of course the stones are marginal but they did the job and showed no wear after several serious sharpenings.

I put this kit together easily and needed nothing else. You will need to tighten down the little screws. My pocket knife is now razor sharp.
